No expense was spared while building this 1948 Plymouth Special Deluxe into a modern hot rod. It has been built to exacting standards. If you want a very drivable street rod that really pours it on when you punch the peddle to the metal, this is the car for you.
It’s been completely gone through from top to bottom less than 500 miles ago and features the coveted 460HP, 383cid Stroker motor from MAS Performance. Speed Pro pistons, Hastings rings, Comp Cams cam and lifters, Fel Pro gasket kit, Pioneer rocker arms and push rods, Melling oil pump, Edlebrock cylinder heads and intake, Eagle crank shaft and rods and the MSD ignition are some of the components that make this GM small block rack up the ponies. Feed it with an Edlebrock 700 cfm carb and you have all of that power on demand.
Getting the power to the Boyd Coddington wheels are a Corvette stall converter, 7000R4 tranny and a Dutchman 9 inch posi rear end hooked up to an Art Morrison 4 link rear sub frame. 3.07 gears keep it tame and very drivable. In fact, the way this car is set up, you can obviously make it haul, but it can cruise around the city in a docile manner, as well.
You want a car like this to drive and stop straight and really roll smooth. It does, thanks to a Fat Man front clip with rack and pinion power steering and disc brakes all around that are controlled by the ABS electric high-pressure accumulator brake system. Wrap the Boyd Coddington wheels with Pirelli P215/50R17s in front and matching Pirelli P225/55R18s in the back and it looks as good as it rolls!
Power and efficiency are important, but let’s throw in some classy and functional custom touches, as well. When you sit down in front of the Grant wheel, sitting atop the Flaming River tilt steering column, you want to stay cool in summer and warm in the fall. Reach down and turn on the Vintage Air and dial it to suit yourself. Custom gauges provide accent to the original style dash with lots of shine and function. The full compliment of gauges include the digital speedometer. It’s all tucked away neatly, showing quality craftsmanship. The battery and fuel cell are in the trunk, out of site, but easy to access. Push a button and the trunk opens by solenoid.
If you like lots of shine under the hood, you’re going to love this baby. From the fluid reservoirs and Edlebrock valve covers and air cleaner to the custom Street and Performance pulley set, if you like to polish, you have something to occupy your free time in the garage.
The standard door and window operation have been left intact to retain the classic look and feel. With a period correct sun visor, simulated wood grain dash and interior trim, interior fabric and lots and lots of original stainless outside, this car gets lots of eyeball going down the road or sitting at the show. It just gathers gawkers!
Suicide doors, blue dot tail lenses, custom tuned exhaust, custom third brake lamp, AM/FM/CD stereo, halogen headlamps, fantastic chrome and stainless. This sweet little car has it all.
A great hot rod that responds like a tiger or purrs like a kitten; brilliant yet subtle… doesn’t it belong in your garage? At only $38,500 it is a bargain. It would cost twice that much to build a rod of this quality and it is ready to go now. So, why in the world would the owner want to sell it? To build another one, of course.
